Vinyl

Vinyl Sheet Flooring and Vinyl Composite Tiles (VCT) are the most popular types of flooring, both in the commercial and domestic sectors, due to their comparatively low cost and high durability.

Modern vinyl sheet and thermoplastic tiles can be printed in any colour and with a variety of patterns to mimic the appearance of wood or stone. Vinyl is highly resistant to abrasion, making it ideal for high traffic areas, such as supermarkets, where the extensive use of rotary cleaning machines, scrubber dryers and high-speed burnishing machines is needed to clean, strip and polish.

The surfaces vary from smooth and easily maintainable to coarse safety floors with anti-slip properties for use in wet environments. Key players in vinyl floor manufacture include Altro Safety Flooring, Karndean, Armstrong, Gerflor, Amtico and Polyflor.

Why do you need floor polish?

Whilst vinyl floor coverings are resilient underfoot, they become scratched and damaged and will wear out prematurely without protection. Adding layers of topical floor dressings such as high-quality floor polish can dramatically enhance the appearance of your floor and extend its working life. The floor polish becomes a sacrificial layer, which can be maintained.

How do we restore your floor?

To remove old, worn and soiled coatings beyond maintenance, we use a chemical stripping solution and floor stripping pads. The floor is then thoroughly rinsed to remove left-over residues, and fresh new coats are applied to give your floor new life and make it easy to clean.

Periodic Maintenance

Once your floor has been deep cleaned and restored with a polish treatment, a periodic floor maintenance programme will keep the look of your floor at the desired level and the surface protection remains intact so the wear on your floor is reduced to a minimum.

Notice how the scratches seem to disappear into the treated area.
The scratches in the tile are still present but less visible in the polish treated area. The floor is completely clean.

PUR Vinyl With Scratches

This customer had a new PUR Vinyl floor fitted, but after it very quickly had become scratched, we were called out by the manufacturer to give it a polish treatment. Even though PUR Vinyl has a harder surface than traditional vinyl, that doesn't mean it won't scratch. The floor still needs to be maintained regularly, especially in a high traffic environment.

Clay Removal, Coventry University

The Vinyl floors in the clay rooms at Coventry School of Art & Design needed to be deep cleaned before the new term. First, the floors were scraped and swept manually to remove clay in heavily built up areas. Secondly, they were cleaned several times by chemically cleaning, and thirdly, they were rinsed and washed over with a neutral cleaner to remove any residue and leave a nice fragrance. A time consuming process but well worth it when you see the final result.

Entrance matting act as the first line of defence when it comes to preventing outside dirt and grit from being walked into a building, and, even more importantly, they reduce the risk of slips and falls - a key consideration for all publicly accessible buildings. Research shows that up to 90% of all dirt and debris present within a building is tracked in from the outside on the bottom of shoes. An effective entrance mat measuring 6 meters can remove 75% of all this dirt, contain it in one place and reduce the cleaning cost otherwise required in the building.

The ‘Wet & Dry’ Floor Cleaning Method

What is the 'Wet-and-Dry' Method? When using the Mop & Bucket system, the 'Wet-and-Dry' method is a very simple yet incredibly effective step in picking dirt and grit off the surface during floor cleaning. First you wash the floor with a wet mop until you're satisfied you can't clean any more dirt off. Then you go over the damp area with a CLEAN, DRY mop to pick up any leftover dirt and grit you couldn't pick up during the clean. You will be amazed at how much dirt you can still pick up during this simple step, please see below.
